Memorial dedicated for retired teacher killed in accident

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The Loxley Volunteer Fire Department has dedicated a heart shaped memorial rose garden in the name of Martha Hinton.

Family members attended the dedication on Thursday, May 22.

Authorities said Hinton, a retired elementary school teacher in Loxley, was killed when a truck driven by an alleged drunk driver crashed into her parked car. It happened in January 2014 at the Wendy’s on SChillinger Road, near Airport Boulevard.

Officials said the truck, driven by Maurice White, went into the restaurant’s parking lot and t-boned the parked Prius Hinton was in.

White was uninjured in the accident. He has been charged with manslaughter in the case.

The case is expected to be heard by a grand jury. White is tested twice a week for alcohol.
