ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Dozens of suspected drug users and dealers received a special wake-up call Wednesday morning. Many ended up in handcuffs. “We get them at home. They do stay up all night, but they tend to go back to their nest and stay there,” said Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin. “So, hopefully we catch them on the roost before they leave the house.”
The drug task force targeted 63 people with a total of 94 warrants. Some of the suspects apprehended Wednesday weren’t very vocal, while others responded. “I’m innocent. Roll Tide,” said Heath McDonald. He was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. He admitted to not having prescriptions for the pills he was taking.

In one house, deputies found crystal meth and marijuana in plain sight. One person was charged with a felony. Neighbors in the area are glad to see the task force doing their job. “I’ve lived her 50-something years and I didn’t realize this was that bad,” said Celestine Shockley.
For deputies, the fight against illegal drugs is a daily battle. Wednesday was a successful day in battle for them. In total, thirty individuals were arrested on 46 warrants in Etowah County for the day.
