FEMA recovery centers still open

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -Federal officials have some new figures on how many people are visiting disaster recovery centers in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

Both counties were declared federal disaster areas in the wake of recent storm related damage.

Disaster centers opened in both counties earlier this month.

The Mobile office is on Museum Driv,e and there are offices in Baldwin at the Fairhope Civic Center and Elberta Town Hall.

Bill Lehman with FEMA said, “We’ve had probably over a thousand visitors. That’s three centers, two in Baldwin, and one here in Mobile. Many of those people are coming in and registering with FEMA.”

Tom Nocera with the U.S. Small Business Administration said, “Even though business is our middle name, it turns out, in disasters, we approve a lot more loans for homeowners and renters. And, we have already approved $1.6 million plus for the current disaster here in Alabama.”
