A Satsuma High School senior got a one of a kind gift at her graduation ceremony Friday, May 16. Erica Denny’s brother, whose been deployed with the Navy for three years showed up to surprise her.
“That’s my world you know and I haven’t seen her in over a year so I just wanted to come home and surprise her,” Ryan Denny said.
Denny has been deployed with Operation Enduring Freedom and only makes it home every once in a while. He last saw his sister a year ago.
“It’s hard to talk to everyone at home because you can’t tell them what you do. That makes it hard. You’re really excited you do something fun and you want to call them and tell them but you can’t say what you did or where you’ve been,” Denny said.
He tries to call his sister Erica as much as he can but with little reception, he usually has to text her or send a Facebook message. Friday night though, he got to congratulate her in person.
“I’m supposed to be a tough guy and I’ll probably cry,” he said.
After the graduation speeches and the cheers the hats hit the air and Ryan spotted his sister. The two ran to each other and embraced in a hug, tears streaming down their faces.
“I thought he was on deployment,” Erica said grinning from ear to ear. “I’m just so happy I haven’t seen him in so long. He’s my best friend (and) I’ve missed him so much.”
It’s a reunion and a graduation neither one of them will forget.
