Two teams heading to baseball state championships

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The state finals for baseball begin this week and two teams from the area – Spanish Fort and St. Luke’s Episcopal – are both in the hunt for the title.

The state finals will be a best of 3 series.

Last season, the Wildcats won the 1A state title. They come in this year with a record of 34 and 5.

The St. Luke’s Wildcats loaded up and left out Thursday morning, May 15, for Montgomery.

FOX10 News was there and asked Coach Tim Becker how he prepared the team.

“Well, we had a great practice Monday and Tuesday. We were in the gym yesterday because of rain. But we’ve been doing the same thing all year. Our kids are focused and prepared and they understand what is at stake because we’ve done this the last two years, and a lot of these kids have been a part of that,” Becker said.

The Wildcats are set to face off with Athens Bible. The first game is set for 4 p.m. Thursday. Game two is set for Friday morning.

Spanish Fort is 37 and 6 in 5A. They’re leaving for Montgomery Thursday afternoon, and their best of 3 series starts Friday morning.
