Man, 20, killed after church, arrest made

Mobile police said just before 4 p.m. on Mother’s Day, they got a call to Quail Run neighborhood in Theodore. That’s where police say 21-year old Arlando Nichols shot and killed 20-year old Zach Alston.

The U.S. Marshals arrested Nichols in Atlanta Monday, May 12.

Alston’s sister says she doesn’t know who the suspected killer is but she wants justice for her brother.

“He wasn’t that type of person for him to be gunned down like that. He don’t drink, smoke or any of that. We’re all shocked,” Pamela Alston said.

Family members say Alston went to church Sunday morning and never returned home. That’s when they got word he had been gunned down inside a parked car on Setter Road.

Janet Sullivan is with the Quail Run Community Action group. She says neighbors are concerned about crime in the neighborhood and have even started their own neighborhood watch program, but she says they never expected this kind of violence in their community.

“It’s a good, quiet neighborhood. For something like this to happen, it’s very devastating to us,” said Sullivan.

Family members say Alston loved to rap Gospel music and often sang with his sister. Pamela says he was a smart kid with a caring heart and a love for God.

In the midst of their grief and questions, the family says they just want justice to be served.
