A press conference has just concluded by Mobile County Officials after the Mobile Government Plaza building caught fire early this morning.
Steve Huffman, Public Information Officer with the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department, told Fox10News it was a 2-alarm blaze that damaged the roof and the 8th floor level of the north tower of the building. Firefighters were called out to the fire around 3:30 a.m.. Heavy smoke and water damage occurred. There were no injuries.
That section of the building holds the circuit court offices and the jury assembly areas. Huffman said the cause of the fire appears to have happened because of roof repair operations that began several months ago.
Mobile County officials said another press conference will be called Sunday. An announcement on whether or not the building will reopen for regular business Monday will be made at that time.
Fox10News will continue to provide you the latest updates on this developing story throughout the weekend.
