Owner: Never had a problem until new drainage pipes

One by one, Mandy and Adam Bond pulled cars to higher ground. They own B & R Auto Depot in Foley and said Tuesday’s historic rainfall flooded their lot damaging about 60 vehicles.

“I just never imagined it would be over the hood it’s just tragic, indescribable. We drove up in his truck and it was like a lake,” Mandy said.

Adam said about 2 a.m., the water was up to his waist. He said water was up to the hood of some trucks and almost covering smaller cars.

It’s the first time the lot has flooded since Mandy’s father built the business more than 40 years ago.

“Until they did the new drainage, we never had this problem.,“ Adam said.

The couple said new pipes were put in about two and a half years ago and fear another historic rain or hurricane is going to bring the same trouble.

“I can’t explain the feeling just devastation and anger. We paid cash for everything here and our customers cars were underwater,” Adam said as his eyes welled up with tears.

It’s an emotional time for the family that’s built their life selling and repairing cars.

Now the couples cleaning up and drying out hoping they can still save some of the vehicles.
