There will be plenty to see and do on Dauphin Island Saturday. The 5th annual Dauphin Island Gumbo Festival is going on during the 56th annual Dauphin Island Sailboat Regatta.
The Regatta is considered to be the largest single-day point-to-point race in the United States, according to its website. The event kicked off at 9:30 a.m. and will culminate in a party and trophy presentation later this evening at the site of the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo.
And if families are not watching the hundreds of sailboats race toward Dauphin Island from the Middle Bay Lighthouse, the 5th annual Dauphin Island Gumbo Festival will please connoisseurs of this popular dish.
More than twenty teams will compete and there will be live music and children’s activities throughout. The actual cooking is spread out in several venues of the island, which makes it a perfect walking tour for family and friends. The event began at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m..
