Case of man accused of killing mother sent to grand jury

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Bond was denied and the case sent to a grand jury in the investigation of a son accused of shooting his mother because “Jesus told him to do it”, according to the suspect.

Derek Boyce, 26, was arrested Tuesday, March 25 for the death of his mother, 53-year-old Maureen Day. Officials said Day was shot multiple times in her home on Repoll Road.

When Boyce was asked by reporters why he killed his mother, he said Jesus told him to do it. When he was asked if he had anything to say to his family Boyce responded, “They understand.”

Boyce was also asked if he regrets his actions.

“Yes,” he responded.
