FB’s New “Nearby Friends” Feature

Facebook has started rolling out a new feature. This one is called “Nearby Friends”. It lets friends see how far away you are from them. And for a limited time, you can share your exact, on-going location. The network says the new feature could get people spending more time with friends in the real world instead of online. Facebook apps for Apple and Android will add a list of your nearby friends, and will send notifications if you come within a short distance of a friend. You can expect to have the new feature within a few weeks. If you have privacy concerns, you can just ignore the feature and never use it. And, it’s only available to people over 18.

Sony’s Playstation 4 sales dominate over the Xbox One. Microsoft has announced that it has shipped 5 million Xbox One consoles to retailers. That’s just the shipping number, not the number sold. Sony has sold 7 million Playstation 4 units to customers. Microsoft was hoping that it’s Titanfall game would change those numbers, but it didn’t work.

And, soon passwords could be a thing of the past. Reportedly, chromebooks might be the first PC device to let you unlock and login to your computer using your smart phone by using a so-called “easy unlock” feature. Google has been looking at ways of getting rid of the password, but don’t expect it to get to your chromebook for another few months.

That’s your Daily Tech.
