Get ready for the fifth annual Catfish Chase 5k, a fun run to fight cancer. The race in Spanish Fort covers beautiful countryside, and you’ll be rewarded with delicious food after the run. This morning Carmelita Hartley with Providence United Methodist Church stopped by our studio to give more details about the run.
The race starts at Providence United Methodist Church, located at 32200 Jimmy Faulkner Blvd., Spanish Fort, and features a certified out-and-back course through beautiful countryside. This race is to raise money for the Relay for Life team. Within the last five years, the church and the Relay for Life team have raised over 60,000 for Relay for Life. The money raised by Relay for Life goes to the American Cancer Society. The race is this Saturday, April 26th.
They’re called the Catfish Church because when they first started they met at David’s Catfish House in Spanish Fort. So naturally, when they decided to do a race it had to be the Catfish Chase. After the race, runners will be treated to a catfish meal, along with fruit and other foods.
The awards are 3 deep and 5-year age groups. This year, they’re doing picture frames. After the race there’s a one-mile fun run. You can register for either race on the day of the race from 6:30am – 7:30am. The race starts at 8am.
