Gulf Shores Police Department officials say the suspect in the shooting of an 18-year-old near the boardwalk of the Gulf Shores Public Beach has turned himself in to authorities.
Jermaine Cungious, 18, of Bay Minette was booked into the the Gulf Shores Police Detention Center and charged with Assault in the 2nd degree and Reckless Endangerment. Gulf Shores Community Resource Officer Josh Coleman said in a press release to Fox10News, Cungious was arrested shortly after 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Cungious was wanted in the alleged shooting of 18 year-old Tommie Jackson of Spanish Fort last Wednesday night. Investigators say Jackson was shot in the forearm and was taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Police said the shooting happened during an argument near the boardwalk at the Public Beach and East Gulf Place around 10:00 p.m. April 16. Investigators say both the suspect and the victim were with a large group of teenagers when the shooting occurred.
The victim of the shooting is a senior and football player at Spanish Fort High School.
“Although a suspect has been arrested, the investigation continues,” said Coleman. “Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Conway at 251-968-1157. During off-hours or on weekends, call the 24-hour GSPD Communications Center at 251-968-2431.”
Coleman said Cungious will be taken to the Baldwin County Detention Center in Bay Minette, but he did not indicate what time that transfer will take place.
