Magic Moments, a statewide wish granting non-profit organization surprised 5-year-old Kendalyn Ard of Silverhill, Alabama at the Bay Bears game with news that her magic moment is coming true. Kendalyn will learn that she will be traveling to Disney World for a one-of-a-kind trip with her family.
Kendalyn suffers from Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalous. She had her first surgery at only 6 months old and relies on a feeding tube. Kendalyn is unable to speak and relies on alternate forms of communication. According to her mother, Shanda, some days are very tough, but Kendalyn is “such a joy to be around” and she brings smiles to the faces of everyone she meets.
Members of the Alabama Power Service Organization are serving as Kendalyn’s Magic Makers and presented her with the big news on the field.
“We are so privileged to be able to give Kendalyn this gift of a magic moment. The opportunity to forget about illness, doctors, hospital visits and just experience the joy of being a child. In addition a gift of a trip to Disney will give the family unit as a whole a much needed respite from the day to day worries and stresses of the child’s illness.” said Joyce Spielberger, Executive Director of Magic Moments.
Magic Moments is a Birmingham-based 501(c)(3) organization providing non-medical wishes to critically ill children ages 4-18 living in Alabama. Since 1984, we have provided magic moments to over 4,200 children in every county of Alabama. Magic Moments is the only wish-granting organization dedicated exclusively to children in Alabama.
