Strap on your running shoes for next month’s Lions Club Tunnel Vision run. The 5K run starts in downtown Mobile, goes through the Bankhead tunnel, and wraps up on the causeway. Tom Walsh from the Lions Club stopped by our studio to tell us about the run and who it benefits.
This is the third year for the Lions Club Tunnel Vision run. It’s a fundraising event for the Lions Club for its sight programs. The proceeds help the blind and the visually impaired. The Lions Club donates money to a number of charities and organizations, including the USA Eye Research Institute, helping the visually impaired. The club also does eye exams throughout Mobile, Washington, and Clarke counties.
The run is on May 3rd at 8am, starting at the downtown Public Library. There will be a great post-party at Tacky Jacks after the run. The title sponsor is The Cunningham Bounds Law Firm. Tacky Jacks is also a sponsor.
The Lions Club was started by Melvin Jones in the 1920’s. Right now, it is the largest service organization in the world with approximately 1.3 million members worldwide. There are a number of Lions Club organizations in Mobile. The Lions Club of Mobile has about 150 members.
