Mobile, Ala. (WALA) Starting May 15th Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint users will be able to text 911 for emergencies in Mobile county.
Authorities at the Mobile County Communications District say if you send a text to “911” a dispatcher will text you back and help will be on the way soon after.
The Communications Director, Gary Tanner, says while calling 911 will still be the number one way to get a hold of a dispatcher, there are certain circumstances that could call for a discreet text.
” For example if you have an intruder coming into your home you do not want to make noise to aware them that you are there,” said Tanner.
Tanner also said if you are involved in a domestic abuse situation sending a text may be an easier way to alert the authorities.
