Pensacola police say an 18-year-old mother and her baby died after a car crash that injured several other family members Saturday, April 12.
Investigators say Schintai Eberhart of Pensacola was ejected from the 2006 Lexus driven by her sister, Lindsey Elberhart, who is also 18 years of age.
Pensacola Police Officer Jason Browning reports Schintai was pregnant and died while undergoing an emergency C-section at a Pensacola hospital. Browning said the baby died soon afterward.
The accident happened around 7:45 p.m. on Brent Lane from Ninth Avenue, according to police. Investigators say the vehicle hit a curb near Evergreen Road, striking a power pole and flipping several times before landing on its left side. The power pole broke on impact.
Pensacola police say the driver, Lindsey Eberhart, was treated for minor injuries and their brother 12 year-old Deven Heflin also received minor injuries in the accident. Lawmen say another passenger, 18 year-old Tristan Home, was treated for a minor hand injury.
Police investigators say charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. Pensacola police also said seat belt usage on all of the occupants of the car hasn’t been determined at this time.
