Friday, April 11, some folks in Fairhope had a chance to rescue a furry friend, while enjoying some specialty craft beer.
For the second year in a row, the Fairhope Brewing Company hosted their “Barks and Brews” fundraiser to support the Haven Guaranteed Adoption Animal Shelter, a no-kill shelter for dogs and cats in Baldwin County.
Haven Shelter representatives said they’re thrilled to be able to team up with the brewery again.
“We are working very hard to give these animals, cats and dogs, loving and forever homes,” said Stephanie Calhoun, an organizer of the event with the Haven Shelter, “We are raising money to continue that mission, and we are working to reduce the number of animals in Baldwin County that are euthanized.”
One of the main focuses of the event was the mobile adoption unit. It gives folks a chance to actually adopt a pet right here at the brewery. Friday, two dogs were adopted and taken home.
“The key to us is we wanted them to bring the Mobile Adoption Unit so there’s actually dogs here to be rescued,” said Brian Kane, Managing Partner at Fairhope Brewing Company, “Because, our customers that come in are all very passionate about dogs as well, so it’s a great opportunity to get some dogs some new homes.”
That makes some folks looking to adopt, very happy.
“We’re actually looking for another dog for our dog,” said Rachel Marcinko, an event-goer, “Our other dog passed away last year, so we brought this guy up here to see who he got along with, and try to find him another companion.”
The brewery also created their own craft beer special for the occasion. It’s called the Rescue Dog Red Beer, and for every glass sold, $1 was donated to the shelter.
Customers told FOX10 they’re glad the brewery put on the event.
“And when you take a little dog like this, and a little face like this, he’s your whole world, how could you not put your heart on the line for something like that?” said event-goer Ralph Thayer, as he held up one of the dogs up for adoption, “So we’re just glad to have the opportunity to do this.”
That Rescue Dog Red Beer is still for sale at the Fairhope Brewing Company if you’d like to donate.
