Cameras rolling as possible murder weapon found

Prichard police believe they have recovered the weapon used to murder an expectant father on John Avenue one week ago.

Authorities arrested Parrish Morrsette, 23, for the murder of Gary Williams.

Police say Morrisette was arrested at the Publix supermarket in Daphne where he had been working for just the last three days.

Investigators received new information after questioning Morrisette, which led them to his home on John Avenue near the murder scene.

Our cameras were rolling as police got consent to search the residence and found the weapon hidden on a top shelf in an outdoor storage closet.

A detective showed it to FOX10 News saying, “There’s one missing cartridge. Then you’re going to have two possible spent rounds right there. That’s consistent with the three shots that were fired. This will possibly be our murder weapon here.”

Prichard Police Chief Jerry Speziale said the search took some time but got results.

He said, “Just being an investigator for 32 years, you never count out anywhere. If you notice, I went for the garbage can. If you notice, we systematically use a grid or pinwheel type search.”

Police say forensic analysts will still need to test the gun to be sure.

The search went on just feet away from a candlelight vigil for Gary Williams.

“We are so sorry that we lost him but we thank god they got the one who did it,” said a family friend. “ We just want to show his mother and brothers some love.”

Williams died after being shot three times on John Street. No word yet on a motive.

Anyone who would like to help the family with final expenses can make donations at any PNC Bank for Gary O Williams.

His funeral will be held Saturday, April 12 at 11:00AM. It will be at the Gospel Light House Phrophetic Deliverance Ministries; 804 West Turner Road in Prichard.
