UPDATE: Police have arrested 26-year-old Jermaine Young in connection with the sexual assault of a student walking home
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -The mother of a girl who was sexually assaulted while on her way home from school says her daughter is working with detectives to create a sketch of the suspect.
Police say the attack happened Monday, April 7 at around 4:30 p.m.
The girl was walking home on Donald Street in Mobile when her mother says she was almost home and took a popular shortcut that leads to her neighborhood.
“My daughter is traumatized,” the girl’s mother told FOX10 News. “All the kids cut through there. I think he was watching her.”
The mother, who FOX10 news is not identifying, says her daughter was first walking home with a group of friends until she got closer her house.
She says she confronted at the pass-through.
The girl will now meet with detectives again on Wednesday, April 9 as the investigation continues.
“You have to be prayed up man. Just pray all the time,” said a concerned parent, shocked at the news. “I hope it don’t ever happen to anyone else’s family.”
Police described the suspect as a heavy set male, dark-skinned and bearded. Police believe he is in his 40s and was last seen in the area around Donald Street.
