Cultural event held to commemorate Vietnam’s founding fathers

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA)- Hung kings are known as Vietnam’s Founding Fathers.

This cultural event has been celebrated every year on March 10th of the Lunar calendar by Vietnamese people worldwide to commemorate and honor their ancestors.

However, it will be the first time that this cultural event has ever been organized here in Mobile.

Hoai Tran, President of the Vietnamese History and Culture Heritage, said the goal is to make this commemoration an annual cultural event for the entire community in Mobile.

The ritual has become a cultural identity of the Vietnamese. It shows the gratitude of the offspring owed to the founders. It has become a significant cultural event of Vietnam when “The worship of Hung kings in Phu Tho” was officially recognized as an intangible cultural heritage of mankind by UNESCO in 2013.
