Air Force veteran returns home; surprises son at school

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A young boy got a big surprise Wednesday morning, April 2, as his mom, Air Force Staff Sergeant Kristy Robinson returned home.

Sgt. Robinson has been serving her country for the past 8 months in Qatar. Expected home on Friday, she returned two days early to surprise her two children, Trinity (4) and Tristan (5).

“I’ve waited a long time for this,” said Robinson.

Returning home from her tour overseas, eight-year-veteran Sgt. Robinson said it is good to be back home…with the family she missed so much.

“I wanted to surprise them. I like to see their faces. They light up. The first couple of months, I called every day. I called every day, whenever I got a chance,” said Robinson.

Her son, Tristan, goes to Collier Elementary, and on Wednesday, mom dressed as a cafeteria worker to surprise him. He was eating lunch with friends.

Sgt. Robinson’s mom, Regina said her heart ached while she was gone.

“When she walked in the door this morning, I just couldn’t hold her enough. I know how she feels with hers, because that’s how I feel about her. I’m just glad to have her home,” said Regina.

Now, grandmother, mom, son, and daughter, are back together again…with mom putting her ‘boot’ down on what the next plan of action will be.

“We’re going to have movie night. “Ok, I can’t wait!” So, yes, yes. We will have movie night. Every Friday. Probably do it tonight too,” said Robinson.

Sgt. Robinson will only be home for the next two weeks before she heads back to base camp in Oklahoma.

FOX10 News wishes her, and her family, the very best.
