It’s a beauty pageant with a twist! You won’t see women showing off their beautiful gowns. This time, the men are taking the stage. It’s time for the second annual “Mr. Jubilee” pageant in Fairhope. Junior Auxiliary President, Jennifer Mcdowell, stopped by our studio to tell us why you don’t want to miss this pageant.
This pageant is a womanless beauty pageant with some fabulous men who are in it to win it! The contestants dress in full drag and makeup, write their own bio’s, and come with their own stage name. The men interact and mingle with the audience in hopes of getting votes to win the crown.
It’s a fun event to raise money for the Junior Auxiliary of Eastern Shore. It’s a non-profit Christian women’s group that raises money for the children in the community. They’ve donated thousands of dollars for grants to local teachers. Money is given to schools at the beginning of each year for students who can’t afford field trips or school supplies. The group also honors 5th graders who show good character, and works with special needs students. They also work with Thomas hospital, providing pediatric rehab and a game room for kids at the hospital. For the kids who can’t leave their beds, the organization sends a cart with games to their hospital rooms.
The Mr. Jubilee pageant is Friday, April 4 at The Venue in Downtown Fairhope. Doors open at 6:15pm, and the pageant starts at 7pm. Tickets are $25 in advance, and $30 at the door.
