Suspected killer was victim’s “high school sweetheart”

The wife of a local army sergeant is expected to be extradited to Mobile for the murder of her husband.

Eugenia Campbell is the second suspect arrested in the murder of Remano Campbell; a case that has been ongoing for more than two years.

FOX10 News is learning more about the suspected killer, who was located in Mississippi.

The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task force also arrested Alexander Williams, who the district attorneys office says lived with Eugenia for some time after the 2011 murder.

“She was his high school sweetheart,” remembered Remano’s mother, who wasn’t completely surprised by the arrest. “He took her to the prom — seemed to be in love back then. I haven’t seen her since the death of my son. During the planning of his funeral, Eugenia didn’t shed a tear.”

Remano served three tours overseas and is survived by his 4 children.

Relatives say he was a patriotic family man and don’t understand how things went so far.

The District Attorneys Office says they have a motive in the case. Ashley Rich said “We do have significant information about motive — but again it’s too early for me to comment on that motive. You’ll hear more at the preliminary hearing.”

Williams is expected in court Friday morning for a bond hearing.

FOX10 News will continue to follow the case.
