The Pensacola Ice Flyers defeated the Mississippi Surge 5-1 on Thursday. The Battle of I-10 was game 1 of the first round in the President’s Cup playoffs. Pensacola’s win marks the team’s 9th victory over the Surge this season. The Ice Flyers (39-13-5) are currently on a 12 game winning streak, and haven’t lost in regulation in 23 games, a Southern Professional Hockey League record.
Pensacola won the regular season SPHL Championship and is looking to defend their President’s Cup Championship from the 2012-2013 season.
The best-of-three series between the top-ranked Ice Flyers and the eighth-ranked Surge will continue on Saturday in Biloxi, Miss.
