Mobile county is sponsoring a household hazardous waste collection day here Saturday.
And, you may have some of eligible items in your garage.
WHAT CAN BE BROUGHT
Mobile County Commission President Connie Hudson said, “The collections will be paint, oil-based, latex, aerosols, automotive fluids, pool chemicals, herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, all of that.”
As opposed to people just throwing these toxic materials in the garbage can, trained personnel will be on hand to collect, transport and dispose of these items without harming the environment.
Hudson said, “We feel this is very important that these types of wastes are properly disposed of. We want to protect the environment, We want to protect our groundwater.”
MONEY FROM FEDERAL GRANT
County officials said a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is making all of this possible.
Hudson said, “It’s a $700,000 grant, and, over three years, it will help us put on several of these types of events.”
The collection will work like a drive-through, so, you won’t have to get out of your car.
But, contractors and commercial businesses are not welcome.
This disposal event is only for the people who live in Mobile County.
