An elderly woman suffered a compound leg fracture and police said it was caused by her daughter-in-law.
No one was at the home on Craftmore Drive in Prichard when we went by there Thursday. It’s the same home where police say the 82-year-old victim injured.
“First we had EMS that responded to the location where we had an 82-year-old elderly female who had a serious compound fracture. As a result of that, EMS contacted us through 911 because of the injury and what they viewed something appeared suspicious,” said Prichard Police Chief Jerry Speziale.
Speziale said officers responded to the hospital then went directly to the home, where the woman was staying with her son and daughter-in-law, Brandy Voughters.
“At the time they noticed there was Clorox, cleaning fluid, and blood and they interviewed the individual and a warrant was signed,” said Speziale.
Voughters was charged with elder abuse and neglect. Speziale said the victim was only staying at the home temporarily. He said she was staying there because she had just lost her mom, and needed emotional support.
We went to the neighbors homes as well, and no one wanted to comment.
“This is a very serious situation. You have an 82-year-old helpless female that’s walking with a walker. Who could possibly want to hurt an 82-year-old female,” said Speziale.
Speziale said his department is pulling 911 records to see if there is any history of domestic violence, or calls about abuse. The victim is recovering in rehabilitation.
Voughters is due to have a bond hearing Friday.
