Doctors said they are concerned for the health of an 8-month-old that weighs 40 pounds, more than three times what a child his age should weigh.
They are placing the toddler on a strict diet. Santiago Mendoza will be taken off formula milk and given juice and vegetables.
According to reports, folds of fat were impeding Santiago Mendoza’s ability to move.
“I’m worried about his obesity,” the boy’s mother told RCN Television. “I don’t want him to continue like this so, God willing, the treatment they’re going to give him for his heart will work to reduce his weight.”
He was flown from his home in Valledupar to the Bogota, the capital, on Sunday, March 16.
The toddler should weigh around 17 pounds, according to doctors.
Doctors said medically the toddler is fine, but the baby has been overfed.
