The HiQ team from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School will advance to the Alabama HiQ championship.
McGill-Toolen hosted the first of two semi-finals matches to determine the teams that will compete against Baker High School, which earned a bye to the championship match to be held March 25 at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel.
McGill-Toolen held a 6 point lead over Murphy at halftime in the academic competition, only to see it slip away in the second half when Murphy tied it. McGill-Toolen pulled away toward the end of the match and won.
The final score was McGill-Toolen Catholic 36, Murphy 27 and Mary G. Montgomery 12.
The second semi-final match is Thursday, March 20 at Davidson against teams from Bryant and St. Luke’s.
