The latest NFCA Coaches Poll ranked South Alabama (19-3) softball at 14th in the country. The Jags just returned to town after a 4-1 finish in Boca Raton. Much of South’s success is credited to Jaguars’ pitcher, Fairhope-native, Farish Beard.
The junior is rated nationally as the number one pitcher in the country for hits allowed per 7 innings. Beard won back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week Awards after striking out 28 batters in 3 games.
“It’s like you’re living a dream almost, it doesn’t seem real, but you work really hard in the off-season and so it’s nice that everything is paying off. My job is easy as a pitcher when I have a great team to back me up,” said Beard.
In the latest poll, Alabama was ranked 10th. The Jags and Tide will go head to head in Tuscaloosa on April 2nd.
Also ranked in the Sun Belt conference is Louisiana-Lafayette. South Alabama will travel to the play the Ragin’ Cajuns in a triple header, April 12th-13th.
Auburn came in ranked 24th in the latest coach’s poll.
