Prichard Police Chief Jerry Speziale said a 16 year-old boy, armed with a handgun,  led several police agencies on a meandering chase through Prichard, Mobile and near the University of South Alabama campus earlier today.

Speziale said the mother of the teenager called 911 to report her son was armed and had left his home on Edison Avenue in Prichard around 11:30 a.m..

Prichard, Mobile, ABC and USA campus police were involved in the chase which ended in the woods near an apartment complex near Ziegler Boulevard.

The extra officers were assisting the Prichard Police Department at a Heritage Day parade in Trinity Gardens when they got the call about the armed teen.    Speziale says the USA Campus Police were involved because the teen drove onto or near the campus during the chase.

Speziale said the mother of the teenager also followed her  son and was giving information to dispatchers.  The 16 year-old was placed under arrest around 12:30p.m. and taken to Strickland Youth Center.
