McGill-Toolen football to play powerhouse Hoover

McGill-Toolen Catholic Football Head Coach Bart Sessions has announced that the Yellow Jackets signed to play a two year, home-and-home contract for spring football games against the two-time defending 6A State Champions, Hoover.

The first game will be played on May 17th, 2014, at Hoover High School; kickoff is set for 2 P.M. The Bucs will come to Mobile next spring.

“It’s an opportunity for our kids to compete on a big stage against the best, clearly when you see what coach (Josh) Niblett and his staff have managed to do at Hoover … that is where we are trying to move our program,” said Coach Sessions. “Our program has made great strides in the last three seasons, and we would like to think we are getting close to competing with those types of programs. This should serve as a good measuring stick for us.”

McGill-Toolen has a record of 34-5 over the past three seasons. McGill reached the 2013 Class 6A semifinal game where the Jackets fell to the eventual runner-up Auburn, 24-21.

Hoover has won 30 straight games and back-to-back state titles. The Bucs beat Auburn, 20-3 at Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium to cap last year’s run.

“Hoover is a class organization. They do things the right way. We try to be a similar organization and hopefully, this will provide an opportunity for both programs to grow. This will give us a chance to put our team in a big-game type setting and hopefully, in the near future, we will play a meaningful game against each other,” said Sessions.
