Fmr. Police Captain fights demotion, new details released

A public hearing was held Thursday, March 6 to discuss the demotion of former Mobile Police Captain Carla Longmire.

Longmire filed an appeal after she was demoted to Lieutenant for conduct unbecoming and failure to supervise in the midst of an on-duty sex scandal involving her subordinate, Officer Bradley Latham.

During Thursday’s hearing, it was revealed that Latham even left the scene of a carjacking to meet with Longmire one ti,m.

Officials tell FOX10 news the investigation into the pair’s on-duty activities began after Latham’s patrol car was spotted in a handicap parking spot at an apartment complex where the two would meet.

FOX10 News has learned a courtesy officer also lived at the complex and was initially being accused of parking in that spot by angry residents.

Shortly after the complaints, officials say an internal investigation that involved surveillance and questioning determined Longmire was continuing a sexual relationship with Latham while on-duty.

Latham was charged also charged with truthfulness during an investigation and disobedience of order, after police say he tampered with his patrol car GPS to hide his location.

It remains unclear on what grounds Longmire is fighting her demotion.

The personnel board is reviewing the case.
