MOBILE, Ala. (WALA)- It’s always hard to say goodbye to a loved one especially if they’re young and suddenly taken in a tragic accident.
Shela Scott had to say goodbye to her grandson, 7-year-old J’Daun Hill Sims who died Wednesday, March 5 from a gunshot wound to the head.
J’daun was rushed to the hospital and into emergency surgery but didn’t make it through.
“I went back there and I hugged him and told him we’re going to miss him. Just buried my mom couple of weeks ago and I guess she wanted Jay (with her),” Scott said.
“He was a good little kid. He go to school. He didn’t never bother no body or nothing,” said Clinton Hill, Sims’s great-grandfather.
Scott said she’s going to miss seeing him in her rocking chair and watching him play outside. She said it’s been an devastating day for the entire family.
The Mobile Police Department responded to the grandmother’s home off Wealthy Drive in Trinity Gardens around 9:30 Wednesday morning where Sims was shot. Mobile Police has not confirmed who owned the gun, who was involved, or what events led up to Sims being shot. FOX10 News learned the gun was found in the home upon police arrival. While formal charges are not being pressed,
Mobile Police took a man away in a police cruiser. His involvement in the case is unknown. Police also took a juvenile in for questioning.
“We’re still talking to family members and those that were with him to determine what happened,” said Ashley Rains with the Mobile Police Department.
