Local Photographer John David Mercer Covers the Olympics

(WALA) – Many locals may know John David Mercer from his 17+ years as a local photojournalist at the Mobile Press-Register before being hired on full time as the Photography Development Manager at USA TODAY Sports Images.

John David is currently the photo coach to a photography network of 250+ contract photographers for the USA TODAY Sport Media Group, overseeing quality control and deadline standards and metrics. He also coordinates all the sports specials for the Gannett properties from the paper at USA TODAY as well as the Gannett properties throughout the USA.

In his spare time he still shoots as a photographer covering sports in the Southeast as well as around the world.

He spent the entire month of February in Krasnaya Polyana, RUSSIA covering his third Olympics. As the anchor photographer at the Sanki Sliding Center in the Mountain Cluster he spent 24 days covering men’s and women’s luge, skeleton and two and four-man bobsled.
