Midtown shooting sends man to ER

A shooting Friday morning in midtown Mobile sent one man to the hospital for emergency surgery.

Police tape blocked off a driveway on Lafayette Street where police found a man bleeding from a gunshot wound.

“At 9:30 this morning we responded to north Lafayette Street for a report on one shot. When we arrived on the scene we found a 20-year-old male lying in the yard,” said Ashley Rains with Mobile Police.

Police said that’s where the victim ended up, but not where the incident began.

“We actually located a crime scene just around the corner where several shots were fired, our victim was hit at least once,” said Rains.

Rains said the victim was taken to USA Medical Center where he underwent surgery for what police describe as life-threatening injuries. Police were combing the scene this afternoon.

We talked to people in the area who said they heard the shots but did not want to talk on camera. Police are still searching for a motive.

Police said they are following up on a few leads and watching the condition of the victim closely. If you have any information you are asked to call Mobile Police.
