Employees robbed at gunpoint, caught on video

FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) – Foley Police are asking for the public’s help catching an armed robber. Police said two employees of a Dollar General store were held up at gunpoint near closing time Wednesday night, February 26 2014.

Surveillance video released Thursday, February 27, shows an armed man, dressed in black and wearing a ski mask enter the Dollar General store at 1121 N. McKenzie St. at 9:25 p.m.  With gun in hand, police said he ordered the two employees working to open the safe.

“He walks in, brandishes a gun, says, ‘Open the safe’ or, ‘Give me all your money’ which they do. And then, he takes them to the back of the store,” said Foley Police spokesperson Kelly O’Donnell.

Neither employee was injured, but police said they were shaken up by the incident.

“It’s definitely a traumatic experience. Everyone handled it and complied when this did happen though,” O’Donnell said.

The robber made away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police describe him as about 6′ 1,” in his early to mid 40s.  O’Donnell believes the suspect has struck before.  Investigators think the same suspect has robbed two other stores in Foley in the last few months.

“He had the same build.  The only thing different in the one last night that our victims noticed was that he had moles around his eyes or what appeared to be moles and also some gray facial hair,” O’Donnell explained.

Police shared more surveillance video showing an armed robber of similar build holding up another Dollar General store on the south side of Foley in December of 2013.  There, police say the suspect also forced employees to open the safe before making them go to the back of the store.

Then less than two weeks ago, the Approved Cash Advance store was hit.  The gun wielding robber forced employees there into the restroom before making his getaway.  Another similarity is that all of the robberies have occurred near closing time.

“We’ve of course beefed up our patrols and our officers are in the area more and more to keep an eye out and make our business owners feel safe,” O’Donnell said.

Police ask that residents keep a close eye out as well until the suspect is caught.  If you have any information about any of these robberies or the suspect, you’re asked to call the Foley Police Department.
