No arrests made in deadly shooting

Investigators said no arrests have been made in a deadly shooting that happened Sunday, February 23.

The shooting at a Mount Vernon nightclub early Sunday morning left one man dead and another injured.

Police told FOX10 News 23-year-old Cortez Thomas as shot in the face at point-blank range. He later died on the way to the hospital. A bystander, Terry Jones, was also shot. He was treated and released from a local hospital.

The shooting took place at Sports 43 Bar, or “Fig’s” as it is known to locals.

The department has three persons of interest in the case.

“At this point, we have three people of interest: Mr. Curtis Brown, Mr. Shakoor Thomas, and Mr. Anthony Thomas,” said Detective Vincent Nye with the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Detective Nye said the department still has not been able to track down those three men. Nye also told FOX10 News the victim, and two of the people the police is looking for, are actually related.

“Curtis Brown is actually the older brother of Shakoor Thomas. Shakoor Thomas and Anthony Thomas and the deceased party is actually a cousin,” said Nye.

No motive in the shooting has been released. If you know the whereabouts of the three persons of interest, contact Mount Vernon Police.
