Mobile Police have identified the suspected burglar who was shot and killed on Fearn Court early Saturday, February 22, as 26-year-old Anthony Carstarphen
Neighbors told FOX10 News Carstarphen was the former boyfriend of the woman who lived in the house.
A neighbor who didn’t want to be identified said she was asleep when a woman knocked on her door around 2 a.m. Saturday
“My granddaughter came and she woke me up and said, ‘Mama this lady knocking on the door. She need some help,'” the woman said.
The neighbor called 911 when she came out a saw a man she recognized as the woman’s former boyfriend lying on the ground.
“I saw her kneeling over the man, and I asked her what’s wrong with him, and she never did tell me what was wrong with him. She just say, ‘Help me! Help me. Help.’ Just kept saying that over and over again,” she said.
Police said Carstarphen was shot and killed after he unlawfully forced his way into an apartment in the R.V. Taylor Housing community.
The neighbor said she’s seen Carstarphen at the woman’s house many times before.
“When I get off work, sometimes he’ll be sitting on the porch. I just come on in the house,” she said.
A screen was removed from a window where neighbors said the man climbed in.
“They say that the man over there was climbing through the window, and when he got through the window that’s when all the commotion got started,” Ethel Jones said.
FOX10 News also talked to Carstarphen’s family. His sister said Carstarphen was the father of the woman’s 1-year-old son, and she said he had a key to the apartment.
According to police, there were two adults inside the apartment, a woman and another man. Both were questioned and released. Officers recovered the weapon, and no arrests were made.
Police said the case will be turned over to a grand jury to determine if any charges will be filed.
