D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) – The Jackson County coroner says a medical problem caused a Louisiana trucker to cross Interstate 10 and hit a car near D’Iberville (dee-EYE-ber-vil), Miss., killing him and a Moss Point musician.
Coroner Vicki Broadus says both 59-year-old Donald Lockhart and 59-year-old Kevin Benefield were dead on the scene after the 6 p.m. crash Saturday.
She won’t give any details about the condition that caused Lockhart to lose control of his tank truck. She says he died of that rather than from injuries. Broadus doesn’t know where in Louisiana he was from.
She describes Benefield as a talented and locally well-known performer of religious music.
The interstate was closed for hours. Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Jason Gazzo says the tanker held a hazardous substance but remained intact.
