Mobile Police say a 40 year-old man died when his pickup truck left the interstate and struck a light pole.

Ashley Rains of the Public Information Office of the Mobile Police Department, said the accident happened after three a.m. Sunday.

“Mobile police responded to the I-10 and I-65 interchange for a report of a single vehicle crash,” said Rains in a press release to Fox10News.  “On scene, police discovered a pickup truck was in the interchange from westbound I-10 to northbound I-65 when the vehicle lost control, left the roadway and struck a light pole.”

Investigators have not released the name of the deceased.  He was the only one in the pickup truck.

Police say it’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.  They did say speed combined with weather conditions were contributing factors.

Rains said the driver was not wearing a seat belt.  Police will continue their investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
