The Mobile BayBears are holding their 2014 High School Baseball Classic. It’s featuring twenty-four different high schools from the area.
The 17th Annual BayBears Classic began in 1998. Only four teams took part in the round-robin tournament: Vigor, UMS-Wright, Baker and Citronelle. UMS won the inaugural event. Since then, the BayBears Classic has continued to expand.
The tournament gives high school baseball players a chance to play at a professional baseball stadium. Many of these players may not get a chance to play at the college or professional level. The Mobile BayBears are proud to provide an opportunity for young student athletes to cherish and remember forever.
The structure of the tournament includes a great fundraising opportunity for each school as they are provided tickets to sell to their game at Hank Aaron Stadium. Six of the high schools will play as host sites the first three days of the event before the competition shifts to The Hank. The host sites this season include; Fairhope, Baldwin County, Murphy, Faith, Cottage Hill Christian and Citronelle High Schools.
After the schools are finished competing at their respective host sites, the overall records and statistics are compiled and the schools are then seeded 1-24. The top two seeds will compete for the tournament championship on February 24, 2014. The other 22 seeds will each play a game at Hank Aaron Stadium on Thursday, February 19 through Saturday, February 22.
