One arrested in carjacking & chase, another on the loose

Prichard Police Chief Jerry Speziale said one man is behind bars and another is still on the loose after a carjacking and dramatic car chase Thursday evening, February 20.

Speziale said around 6:30 p.m. Thursday at a gas station on the 700 block of St. Stephen’s Road, 21-year-old Markavaese Foxx forced an elderly man out of his car with a gun, and took off in the car.

Ahmed Sakhi was working at the gas station when it happened.

“An old man came here and told me he needed some gas, then he gets some gas, and is outside, then he comes back in here and told me call the cops, someone’s put a gun on his head and robbed his car, so I called the cops,” recalled Sakhi.

He said this is the second time a violent crime has happened at his business in the last two months.

Speziale said a Be On the Look Out (BOLO) alert was issued for the stolen car, which was a red Saturn coupe.

Later that evening, Speziale told FOX10 his officer spotted the red Saturn at a gas station on MLK Drive, and approached the vehicle. However, the men inside the car drove off.

Speziale said the officers pursued the vehicle, which caught fire during the chase.

Chief Speziale said the car crashed over a turning lane median near the intersection of Craft Highway and Conception Street Road, and the two men inside the vehicle ran on foot.

Officers caught one of the men, 20-year-old Dontayvius Woods, who was arrested on charges of attempting to elude, robbery, and receiving stolen property.

Foxx was able to get away, and is still on the loose.

Prichard Police now need your help to find Foxx. If you know his whereabouts, call Prichard Police immediately.
