Midtown Mobile families gathered at the Ashland Place neighborhood Wednesday, February 19, for their annual “Mystics of Ashland Place Parade.”
For 33 years now, children from Ashland Place United Methodist Church Preschool have paraded down Lanier Avenue off Old Shell with elaborate Mardi Gras costumes and personal floats. Some parents begin preparations for the parade as early as December.
Some years, the children’s mothers parade with them, but this year the fathers were taking their children through the parade route.
Even Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson pulled his grandson Sam in a decorated wagon.
“This is part of Mardi Gras, and we’re happy to be here,” said Stimpson.
