Magic Johnson speaks to the heart of the community

On Monday, February 17, 2014 Magic Johnson delivered an inspiring message aimed at transforming lives along the Gulf Coast.

The NBA great was invited by Operation People for Peace to inspire the community at an event held inside the Community Maritime Park, Blue Wahoo’s Stadium in Pensacola.

The program targeted youth and young adults with music, high school student participants, and a skit by N.B. Cook Elementary Students.

Johnson talked to a crowd of about 3,000 about changing their circumstances; regardless of the cards they are dealt in life.  He said, “You can be poor but you don’t have to make poor choices.”  Before he addressed the crowd he sat down with our Lenise Ligon.

The event was sponsored by University of West Florida, Cumulus Broadcasting, Quint & Rishy Studer Charitable Giving, City of Mobile, Alabama, Bishop State College (Mobile, Alabama), Visit Pensacola, Escambia County School District, Attorney Fred Levin, City of Pensacola, FL, and Fox10News.
