Saturday was the first weekend for downtown Mobile Mardi Gras parades and the crowds who attended on a beautiful sunny day were not disappointed.
At 2:30 p.m. the Bayport Parading Society started the fun. Mobile Police said more than twelve thousand people were in attendance.
That evening, the Pharoahs, Conde Explorers and the Order of Hebe took to the streets of downtown Mobile.
Police say more than eighty-three thousand people crowded the streets in hopes of catching moon pies, beads, cups and toys.
Earlier in the day, in the Fowl River area, crowds enjoyed the Order of the Rolling River, which began on Dauphin Island Parkway at 2:00 p.m.
Mobile Police urge everyone to observe safety rules such as not crossing street barricades and not parking vehicles illegally in non-parking areas.
Those who do will have to may hefty fines well in the $100 to $200 range.
