Students at Fairhope Middle School have spent the last two weeks raising money for a great cause. Friday, February 14, the student body will present a check for $2,400 to the Leukemia Society.

One of their classmates, France Grace Hirs, is fighting leukemia for the third time, so the drive to raise funds has hit very close to home. School officials say this has been a pilot program for the Society and a big success.

The ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. at the middle school and there will be a balloon release at the end.

FOX10 News reporter Hal Scheurich will be there for the event and will talk to Hirs’ family and some of the students who made this possible. Watch his report tonight on FOX10 News at 5 p.m.
