The Conde Cavaliers were busy Mardi Gras Eve getting ready to kick off the Mobile Mardi Gras season with the Friday, February 14 downtown parade.
“We’re the first ones to always start off the year every year in Mobile,” the Cavilers’ president said. “Today is our load up day. We’ve been here all day loading up, getting all the throws on the float and getting ready for a big day tomorrow night.”
The floats were all lined up Thursday, February 13 and people were packing them with cups, beads and stuffed animals.
It takes about 11 months to get ready for the parade and it all comes down to one night – when people will crowd the streets just to get a glimpse of the floats and of course catch some beads.
“We love the parade. That’s the biggest thing for us. We love to deal with the kids, throwing to the crowds. That’s one of the things that the Cavaliers’ pride themselves on is being part of the public,” the president said.
The parade kicks off at 6 p.m. on Route “A”.
