OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) – Lee County coroner’s officials say charges aren’t expected to be filed in the death of a 30-year-old man was hit by car.

Authorities say Ricardo Denard Jones was pronounced dead on the scene after he was hit by a car on U.S. Highway 280 Saturday night. Officials say Jones appeared to have been crossing the highway and stepped into the path of the vehicle that hit him.

The highway was closed for about two hours after the crash, and state troopers rerouted traffic while they investigated the accident.

Authorities say the driver and two children who were in the vehicle were taken to a local hospital for observation, but didn’t suffer life-threatening injuries.
