Alabama House Representative Joseph Mitchell of District 103 announced Friday, February 7 he would not be seeking re-election.
“The close of this year represents my having served 20 years as state legislator,” Rep. Mitchell said in a release.
Dr. Mitchell represents the district that includes midtown Mobile, parts of Theodore and the Maysville community.
Mitchell is founder of Alabama American Research and Education Associates, Inc.
The announcement comes about month after representative Mitchell made his first appearance in a long time in Montgomery. The representative was absent for the entire 2013 session.
Last year, Mitchell reportedly dealt with health issues and made headlines after a controversial e-mail about gun control was made public.
